Colum McCann, Let the Great World Spin (winner of the 2009 National Book Award for fiction), and Joseph O’Connor, Star of the Sea and Redemption Falls read and discuss their writing.

McCann teaches at Hunter College and is the author of two collections of short stories and five novels, including This Side of Brightness, Zoli, and Dancer, all of which were international best-sellers. He is the recipient of numerous awards and honors: this year he was inducted into Aosdana, one of Ireland’s highest literary honors, and he received a French Chevalier des arts et lettres from the French government.

O’Connor, previously a Cullman Fellow at the NYPL, is a Visiting Scholar at Baruch College this semester. He is the author of several works of non-fiction and fiction, they include Sweet Liberty: Travels in Irish America, The Salesman, Inishowen and The Last of the Irish Males, and two plays. He is a regular contributor to Irish publications and to RTÉ’s Drivetime, a news and current affairs radio program.
