Glucksman Ireland House presents

Crime novelist John Connolly reads from The Gates

Thursday, October 22nd at 7pm

at Glucksman Ireland House NYU

Over the past decade and more intensely most recently, Irish crime writing and writers have enjoyed significant international success. Dubliner John Connolly is the acclaimed author of a dozen best-selling novels, eight of which are crime thrillers set in Maine and feature the flawed protagonist Charlie Parker, a former policeman hunting the killer of his wife and daughter.

Connolly studied English at TCD and Journalism at DCU and worked as a freelance journalist for the Irish Times before leaving to write full time. His first novel, Every Dead Thing, met with critical acclaim. Connolly was the first author outside of the US to win the Shamus Award for Best First Novel. Connolly will discuss the surge in Irish fiction and the genre of crime fiction, exploring some of the reasons for its popularity and success. He will also read from his new novel The Gates, a strange novel for strange young people.
