Hilary Mhic Suibhne has been teaching Irish in the New York area since 1998. She has been a lecturer in Irish language at New York University’s Irish Studies Program since 2006. In addition, she established An Scoil Chois Claí (The Hedge School) at Iona College in New Rochelle, NY, where evening language classes and an annual Irish language celebration day are conducted. She also teaches with Daltaí na Gaeilge, (Students of Irish) which runs language immersion programs in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.  (She has previously taught Irish at Vassar College, SUNY-Purchase, the Tara Circle in Yonkers, and New York’s County Kerry Association.)  Hilary has been an invited teacher at Irish language events in Montreal, Quebec; Kingston, Ontario; Madison, WI; Portland, OR; Chicopee, MA; Petersham, MA; Fairfield, CT; Dallas, TX and Butte, MT. She is on the board of the North American Association of Celtic Language Teachers.

Hilary worked with the Language Centre of the National University of Ireland at Maynooth to establish Glucksman Ireland House as the testing center in the United States for the European Certificate in Irish. She writes the award-winning Irish language blog, Hilary NY. Her articles have been published in Comhar, The Irish Echo, and in An Gael. She co-edited and co-translated a collection thirty-two essays written in Irish by the late Barra Ó Donnabháin, which was published in book form as Súil Siar in 2008. She has provided Irish language pronunciation advice to Random House Audio Book Services, translations and song interpretation advice to musicians and is a regular guest on Fordham University’s weekly Irish language radio program, "Míle Fáilte," with Séamas Blake.
